Carpet Care Tips

Regular vacuuming (one day per week for each person/pet in your home) and annual professional steam cleaning is recommended.  Regular maintenance gets rid of ground in dirt that weakens carpet fibers, decreasing the life of your carpet.  It also removes germs, dust mites, and bacteria that have accumulated, promoting a healthier indoor environment.

SPOT CLEANING GUIDE

Liquid Spills:

  1.  Soak up as much liquid as soon as it gets on the carpet.
  2. Blot the carpet; do not scrub or rub (this could spread the spot and also damage carpet fibers).
  3. Mix ¼ teaspoon dishwashing soap with one quart water in a spray bottle.  Spray a small amount of mixture on spill and blot with a white towel (or white paper towel), repeat until spot is gone.
  4. Rinse and blot dry.

If you cannot clean the spill right away, place a damp (and keep it damp) white towel over it until you can clean it.

Solid Spills:

  1.  Scrape up the large pieces (use a rubber spatula so you don’t damage the carpet) then soak up any liquid.

Specific Stains:

Blood:  Blot up as much as you can, using a white towel.  Spray a small amount of regular household ammonia then blot again.  Continue with step #3 above.

Candle Wax:  Scrape off as much as you can (use a rubber spatula or the back of a butter knife so you don’t damage any carpet fibers).  Place a paper bag over the wax and an old rag on top of the bag.  Using an iron on low, go over the rag repeatedly.  This will cause the wax to melt and get absorbed by the paper bag.
